Happy World Animal Day!

Today is #WorldAnimalDay! An opportunity to remember that our health, relies on their health!

At Sault Ste. Marie Animal Clinic, we have the privilege of providing health care to the four-legged members of your family. It is well recognized how beneficial sharing your life with pets is to your overall health and well being. Pets provide companionship, encourage exercise, facilitate social interactions and in some cases provide a reason to get up in the morning! They enrich our lives every day.

#World Animal Day is a good time however, to reflect on other ways veterinarians and animals impact our lives:
• Healthy animals are important source of food for most people.
• Vaccinations save lives – Rabies is still a major health threat world-wide and most cases of human exposure are from dog bites. Vaccinating animals against rabies reduces the risk for people.
• Zoonotic Diseases are diseases that can be transmitted from animals to people – efforts to keep animals healthy – pets, livestock, even wildlife – help keep people healthy.

There is a growing awareness of just how much human health relies on healthy animals and a healthy environment. The ‘One Health’ approach benefits us all!
