At Sault Ste. Marie Animal Clinic, safety is our top priority when giving pets a general anesthetic or performing surgery. One of the best ways we can minimize the risks involved is to perform a Pre-Anesthetic Blood Screen (PABS). This simple blood test can help confirm that your pet’s internal organs are functioning properly. Since your pet’s spaying or neutering is likely the first time your pet will undergo general anesthesia, it is an ideal time to have a PABS done. All pets over the age of six or seven years of age will require a PABS prior to surgery.
