At Sault Ste. Marie Animal Clinic, we are extremely vigilant in the proper handling and sterilization of our surgical instruments and equipment. A separate surgical pack, suture packs and surgical gloves are opened and used for each surgery patient. We use a steam autoclave (uses steam, extremely high temperatures and high pressure to kill all bacteria or germs present) for all instruments, surgical drapes and gowns that might be used in surgery. We participate in a voluntary quality assurance program that ensures our sterilizer techniques always achieve appropriate levels of disinfection. For items that cannot be sterilized using a standard steam autoclave such as endoscopes and laparoscopic instruments, we have invested in a state of the art gas sterilizer. Rest assured, any instrument coming in contact with your pet at Sault Ste. Marie Animal Clinic during a surgical will have undergone thorough cleaning and rigorous sterilization.
